Cyclades Holiday Guide

The Cyclades promise everything we desire for an island sojourn: sun kissed beaches in the glittering Aegean Sea, shady groves, pine forests, craggy mountain slopes, and winding trails make for a relaxing holiday. When the sun sets, there is a lot more in store to keep the action going. The islands of Cyclades and more prominently, Mykonos provides one of the best nightlife in Greece.

The Cyclades archipelago consists of the big fertile Naxos, with its craggy mountains and landlocked valleys, the sea dominated Donousa, Iraklia and Anafi, and the sedate Andros, Amorgos and Sifnos. However the main attractions of the Cyclades are the islands of Mykonos and Santorini.

Mykonos

The Island of Mykonos, thanks to its rich cosmopolitan character and hedonist nightlife, is one of the top international tourist destinations of Greece. The beauty and the glamour of the island is a magnet for the rich and famous from across the globe. Stay in a vacation villa in Mykonos and you are sure to rub your shoulders with the celebrities, who have made the island their home. Vacation villas in Mykonos provide you the perfect base to explore the best of the island at your own pace, in luxury and comfort.

Mykonos is a sophisticated, fashionable and a favourite destination particularly for the gay traveller. Amidst the designer shops, colourful tavernas, pulsating dance clubs, and a couple of nudist beaches, the traditional Greece too makes its presence felt. The trademark five thatched windmills turning slowly on the hill are a beautiful sight. You can also do some serious sightseeing by visiting the archaeological museum on the island, which displays some finds from the necropolis on nearby Rhenia. From Mykonos, you can also take a day trip to the uninhabited island of Delos, which is an important World Heritage archaeological site. Delos was the religious and political centre of the Aegean in ancient times and its imprints can be seen in the Avenue of the Lions and stunning archaic sculptures in the museum.

Santorini

Also known as Thera, Santorini is a small, circular group of volcanic islands located in the southern Aegean Sea. Considered by many as the most beautiful of all the Greek Islands, what make Santorini stand apart from the crowds are its imposing landscape and the caldera with its impressionistic contrast of colours. Legend has it that the eruption of an ancient volcano destroyed the lost continent of Atlantis about 3600 years ago burying the ancient city of Akrotiri under tons of ash. The city is now being excavated and it is little wonder that Santorini, apart from being one of the most beautiful of the Greek islands, is also archaeologically one of the most dramatic. You can browse through the archaeological remains of ancient Thera, dating back to the 9th century BC, on the east side of the island as also an archaeological museum and an 18th-century monastery. For the beach lovers, Santorini offers two swimming beaches, Perissa and Kamari, both characterised by their volcanic black sand.

You can explore the best of Santorini attractions by staying in a vacation villa on the island. Vacation villas in Santorini are all about comfort, luxury and privacy. Vacation villas in Santorini also provide you the perfect opportunity to rub shoulders with the locals and get a taste of a lifestyle you have never before experienced.
